In India the elderly population is growing at a significant pace but geriatric care is in its formative stages. Geriatric care extends beyond hospital care and includes active aging and preventive care programs, home based care, specialized care centers such as skilled nursing facilities, transitional care facilities, palliative care and hospice centers, memory care centers, and psychiatric care units.
